If this is your first visit or a return trip, you will unquestionably agree that our beautiful village has much to offer to vacationers from around the world. We invite you to explore our local community and get to know the friendly residents of Hopkins Village.

Hopkins is a quaint fishing village on the coast of the Stann Creek District in Belize and is considered the cultural center of the Garinagu people. Most Hopkins residents speak fluent English, as well as their native tongue (a mixture of Arawak, African, French, English, and Spanish). While many people travel to Belize in search of crystal clear waters and an untouched rainforest, the chance to experience Belize’s Afro-Caribbean culture provides for a life changing vacation. In Hopkins, it is the smiling faces and picturesque scenery that will make your trip to Belize one to remember. People who travel to Hopkins often rave about the friendly locals who welcome people from all walks of life and enjoy sharing their history and local customs through dancing, singing, drumming, and of course, food! The village hosts several annual events throughout the year including, Hopkins Day, Mango Fest, Kite Fest, Easter Fair, and always celebrates Garifuna Settlement Day on the 19th of November, a national holiday honoring their arrival to the Belizean shores.

Hopkins residents  have  traditionally lived  mostly by farming and fishing, but more recently many have found work in the growing tourism industry. Hopkins has a selection of gift shops, restaurants, and small bars for you to visit. The residents are known for their friendliness and genuine hospitality, so much so, that Hopkins was recently voted “The Friendliest Village in Belize” by Belize First Magazine.

As in all tropical climates, mosquitoes and sand flies are prevalent. Please be sure to use repellant, especially on inland tours. We have items for sale in our gift shop.

Driving in Belize is safe in the more populated areas where the roads are paved. Consider renting a four-wheel-drive vehicle if you plan to explore the countryside. Driving from Belize City to Hopkins is quite safe; 90% of the roads are paved and a vast majority of the drive is on the scenic Hummingbird Highway.

We would like advise you that driving in Belize is not like driving in the USA on the freeway / highway because the vehicles travel in alternate directions. We apologize in advance for the broken pavement, poor signage, and unmarked one-lane bridges on our highway. Please make sure that you bring your driver’s license. We strongly recommend a 4-wheel drive vehicle that is insured. Please avoid driving at night.

Drinking: While the tap water technically is safe to drink, we do not recommend that you do so. Belizean Dreams Resort provides bottled water in all of our rooms. Please stay hydrated.

Swimming: It is safe to swim, kayak, or snorkel the Caribbean Sea in front of Belizean Dreams Resort.

Belize is a safe country; however, like everywhere else, you should exercise caution. Do not wear flashy jewelry and carry large amounts of cash. Do not travel on dark roads in the nighttime.

Did you know that you can upgrade your room during your stay with us? See Front Desk for your options.

If you’ve booked a room only reservation, you are able to convert your stay with us through purchase of our supplemental all inclusive packages. This is only available on the day of check-in or the day proceeding your check-in with us. See Front Desk for rates.

The currency of Belize is the Belize Dollar (BZ$). Belize widely accepts US Currency. The dollar notes are accepted countrywide at a universal exchange rate of BZ$2 to US$1, but keep in mind that the notes must not be mutilated in any way or they may not be accepted. Please note that the US coins are not accepted, therefore we suggest that you bring smaller denominations as all change will be issued back to you in Belize dollars.

Most hotels, resorts, restaurants, and tour operators accept US currency in form of notes, traveler’s checks, and credit cards. Belizean Dreams Resort accepts MasterCard, Visa, and American Express. You may also use the ATM with your international credit or debit cards to withdraw cash while in Belize. ATMs can be found in the International Airport in Belize City, Dangriga Town, and Hopkins Village near the entrance. Kindly be advised that all charges to credit cards will be processed in Belize dollars.

Like Belizean Dreams Resort, most companies in Belize will not be held responsible for any currency rate of exchange variances applied by banks or for any international processing fees that may be charged by your credit card company.

English is the official language of Belize, although a number of dialects are spoken among the country’s 350,000 citizens. This is the result of Belize’s rich and multicultural heritage.

In Hopkins Village you may hear the locals speak their native tongue Garifuna; however a majority of the locals speak English as well.

Time observed year round is the same as United States Central Standard Time. Belize does not observe Daylight Saving Time.

Belize uses 110-volt alternating electric current, the same standard as the US. If you are coming from the US, converters are not necessary.

Resort Amenities & Services

Bicycles are free for all guests. Golf carts rentals are US$20 for the first hour and US$10 for every hour after that.

Our check-in is at 3 pm and check-out is at 11 am.

Our promised check-out time is 11 am.

As with check-in, we know how convenient it is when travelers are afforded flexibility on check-out. When the schedule permits, we are very happy to grant you a later departure time. This will be subject to the schedule of the arriving guests and our housekeeping team. Since we often receive last-minute bookings, we can’t guarantee a late check-out until the evening prior to departure. Please confirm with front desk the evening prior to departure should you wish to request a late check-out. Again, this is not guaranteed but we will do our best.

In the Case of a Fire: For your safety, fire extinguishers have been placed in every villa. Please familiarize yourself with their location. If you detect fire or smoke in your villa, please do not put yourself and your family in jeopardy. All guests are required to evacuate the building immediately on the outbreak of a fire.

Before you leave your villa, feel the door. If it is cool, open it slightly to see if the balcony is clear of smoke, and then proceed away from the building. If the door is hot, DO NOT open it. Locate another safe exit and repeat the previous safety measures. In the case where the exits from the villa are blocked, remain in your villa and hang a blanket over your window to notify rescuers of your presence in the villa.

In the event of heavy smoke, seal the door with wet towels. Once you have safely exited your villa, please inform the front desk or our security guard about the situation. Stay far away from any structure, trees, or bushes as they can catch on fire rapidly.

In the event of a fire, listen for instructions from resort personnel, remain calm, and follow the directions given. Please make your way to the meeting point located in the parking lot.

In the Case of a Power Outage: Power outages are a reality in Belize so Belizean Dreams Resort is equipped with a generator to ensure our guests with safety and comfort at all times. If the electricity does go out it takes approximately fives minutes for the generator to be in full operation. The generator will provide adequate power for lighting to all of the villas. The generator is not designed to provide power for all regular activities; however it will provide ample lighting to facilitate in response to any emergency situation and to ensure the safety of our guest and employees.

We ask for your cooperation in reducing your power consumption during the power outage. Please turn off all non-essential electrical equipment including the air conditioning (use the ceiling fans instead) during the power outage.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

The Health Clinic in Hopkins Village is open Monday -Friday from 8 am to 4 pm. A registered nurse is there daily while the doctor is in four days of the week. For emergencies, the Southern Regional Hospital is located in Dangriga. It is open 24 hours a day/7 days a week.

Wireless Internet Service is available at Belizean Dreams Resort which is offered free of charge to our guests.

Our Wi-Fi Signal is the strongest in our common areas, such our front desk lobby (where there is actually a guest computer), our infinity pool / tiki bar area, and our Dining Area. We do not advertise the accessibility of Wi-Fi in our rooms since the signal varies for consistent connectivity.

Our Wi-Fi connectivity is dependent on the service we receive from our National Telecommunication Provider since we rely heavily on them. We have also independently launched a 100 feet antenna geared at improving the internet signal at our resort. Please keep in mind that Belize is a developing country which means that our telecommunication technologies are far from optimal.

If you would like any of your clothes laundered, you will find laundry bags in the armoire. Place your clothes in the bag and call front desk to request laundering. Please allow for a 48 hour turnaround time. Prices start at USD$10 per item and upwards depending on the items and quantity.

We do not have a gym on site. In Belize, everything involves either hiking, biking, or walking and our guests usually take advantage of the long stretch of beach in front of our resort which offers them a natural and peaceful running environment. Guests also enjoy early morning or evening swimming laps in the Caribbean Sea or in our infinity pool.

Recently, a gym opened within walking distance of the resort and our front desk assistants will be more than happy to assist you with booking the gym during your stay. Utilizing the front desk as the contact point is essential to ensuring that tips will be sent to our accounting department, which manages proper and transparent distribution through the staff’s bank accounts.

Belize is well known for its terrestrial and aquatic biodiversity and together we plan to keep it that way. With Belize’s extensive barrier reef system and dense rainforest preserve, it is important to be mindful when exploring various parts of Belize.

Here at Belizean Dreams Resort we invite you to join us to conserve water and energy. In order to conserve energy, water, and heating gas, feel free to use your linens and towels more than once. Please place the towels you would like to have washed on the bathroom floor when you need clean towels. This will prevent us from washing towels unnecessarily. Towels not placed on the floor will be folded and replaced on their respective rack. Kindly turn off all lights, television, radios, and air conditioners when not in use or prior to leaving your room. When using the air conditioner, please check that all of the windows are closed tightly. Please report noisy/leaky faucets and toilets.
