No doubt you have heard about Simone Biles – the five time Olympic gold medalist!
Well, this Olympian just ended her second visit to our beautiful jewel, Belize, in less than a year. Of course by now, it’s no secret that the 2016 Olympic individual all-around, vault and floor gold medalist has ties to Belize. In fact, Simone has dual citizenship in Belize and the United States of America.
Last year, after flooring the competition at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics as a part of the Final Five, Simone left Belizeans feeling proud. So much so, that the Belize Tourism Board officially invited her and her family and friends to visit Belize for a well-deserved all inclusive vacation! Belizean Dreams Resort, among others, had extended an invitation for her and her family to vacation with us… and we are happy to say that she decided to honor us with a visit during her second and most recent Belize vacation.
During their time with us, they visited the Nim Li Punit Mayan Ruin, located in the Toledo District for a historic and scenic southern Belize tour. Nim Li Punit translated from the Maya Kekchi language means “the big hat.” This name derives from one of the many stelae found at the site which depicts a figure wearing a large headdress. It’s safe to say, Simone was taken back in time with this tour. After the tour ended, Simone and her amazing family and friends were taken for a refreshing dip at Big Falls.
After a day of exploring our ancient Maya pyramids, Simone spent her second day on an adrenaline rush as she went zip-lining at Mayan Sky Canopy Tour, about 30 minutes from Belizean Dreams. After zipping through our lush rain forests, they returned to Belizean Dreams for a poolside lunch, where Simone and her family were served our traditional tamales. This meal surely made their taste buds buzz.
After finishing her meal, the Olympian graciously posed for photos with family and new friends at Belizean Dreams. No scene, just scenery.
Like her previous Belize vacation, this trip was action packed — from snorkeling the Belize Barrier Reef to visiting ancient Mayan sites in the deep part of southern Belize to zip-lining atop the rainforest canopy, with more than enough time left to relax at the beach. We think it’s safe to say that her Belizean Dreams tour experience was a success, but in case you don’t want to take our word for it, we’ve inserted her Instagram post below.
