Belize in November, What’s the Big Deal?

Belize in November, What’s the Big Deal?

If you’re considering traveling to Belize in November, you’re in for a treat! Why? Well first of all, any time in Belize is a BIG Deal but here are a few reasons November in Belize is extra special.

Southern Belize is where it all happens!

November 19th is a national holiday in Belize – Garifuna Settlement Day. It is a special day for all Belizeans, especially the Garinagu as they celebrate the first arrival of the Garifuna people to the shores of Belize in boats. Activities such as pageants, concerts, dances and cultural events are usually held country wide starting from the first week of November leading up to the big day. The biggest events takes place south of Belize – Dangriga, Hopkins and Punta Gorda. Each year people come out to witness the “Battle of the Drums” competition where drummers compete to see who has the best skills in drumming. Huge parades and parties are held the nights leading up to November 19th and on the day there is a reenactment of the arrival of the Garifuna in Dangriga. An all-day fair is held, where you can experience the Garifuna culture at its best; food, drinks and drumming to entertain you.
