September
Belizeans boast their patriotism proudly as we celebrate all month long, leading up to two special days for Belize – September 10th which is the celebration of the Battle of St. George’s Caye Day and September 21st – the birthday of our little country; the celebration of Belize’s Independence since 1981. During the month of September, you can expect to see streets, houses and businesses all decorated in red, white and blue; everywhere you go you are bound to hear celebration music. Block parties, talent shows, pageants and parades through the streets are just a few of the many activities held countrywide. Another big event held during the month of September is the annual Carnival march in Belize City; here you will see people dressed in colorful costumes, dancing through the streets to loud festive music, while spectators line the street side all excited to see the costumes and huge floats passing. On the eve of our country’s birthday, there is the traditional countdown to midnight bringing in the 21st with huge fireworks, music and lots of dancing. You can read more about the Battle of St. George’s Caye Day in our blog “St. George’s Caye.”

November
Most of the celebrations happen down south, in Hopkins Village, as we celebrate Garifuna Settlement Day on November 19th. Drumming, dancing and cultural food galore is what the scene is like. Our little Garifuna village of Hopkins is alive with culture and excitement during this time as locals celebrate the arrival of their ancestors to our beautiful country years ago. You too can partake in the activities, as Belizean Dreams Resort will be offering live drumming and dancing lessons weekly throughout the month of November in honor of Garifuna Settlement Month 2017. Consider this our gift to you at no extra cost during the month of November! In addition, our guests will be sure to enjoy the delicious Garifuna cuisine which during this time will definitely be on our menu at the Woven Palm Restaurant and Bar.

Traveling away from the US in November you might be thinking you will be missing out on your Thanksgiving feast… think again! Belizean Dreams will delight you with a Thanksgiving feast with all the trimmings just like home with a tropical twist.
